dress for success

Just in time for Women’s History Month, global nonprofit Dress for Success™ has launched a campaign to help empower all women. In addition to its annual giving program Your Hour, Her Power™, DFS has teamed up with Oprah Daily to present a special four-part video series called "Power Shift".

Your Hour, Her Power (sponsored this year by Arm & Hammer Laundry, Chloe Wine Collection, PPG, Sono Bello, Takeda and T.J. Maxx) spotlights leaders who are paving the way to success for other women and encourages employed people to donate one hour of their pay to support career programs.

"Power Shift" brings together honorees and Dress for Success clients for engaging conversation address ways women can work together to achieve economic independence and self-defined success. The Series will provide a fresh and provocative look at the professional lives of women at the forefront of positive, societal change.

Dress for Success has been committed to advancing women in the workplace and helping them gain financial independence since 1997, when its first location opened in a New York City church basement. Known for providing business attire to women seeking employment, which has served over 1.2 million women so far, prides itself on moving "beyond the suit." Over the past 25 years, its programs have expanded to better address the changing needs of women in the workplace and include career workshops, mentorship opportunities, and 144 locations in 22 countries and dozens of states across the U.S.

There’s no arguing that its services are more crucial than ever: According to a report from the Center for American Progress, women have lost a net of 5.4 million jobs during the Covid-19 pandemic, as opposed to the 4.4 million lost by men. According to Dress for Success findings, 77 percent of its current clients have been laid off, and 59 percent are facing food insecurity. By pivoting services from in-person to virtual, the organization has been able to continue helping the women it serves to reenter the workforce.
