There are days or weeks when you’ve got the bandwidth to plan wholesome, flavorful menus, shop for the ingredients, and prep your meals and snacks at a leisurely pace. And there are others when...you just don’t. Still, as Mom used to say: You’ve got to eat!

Staying fueled when you’re overscheduled may mean grabbing takeout, zapping a frozen meal, or just calling a granola bar dinner. But a nutritional shake may be a better choice. Not only is it ultra-convenient—just scoop, pour, mix, and drink—it’s also think-proof. “It alleviates some of the stress. You don’t have to look at labels or do anything special to prepare it,” says Wendy Bazilian, author of the Eat Clean, Stay Lean series. “You can’t get easier than that.”

And if you think your life never gets crazy enough to rely on liquid nutrition, think again. According to Bazilian, it’s pretty normal to get slammed with situations that can throw off your eating from time to time. Here are three scenarios you’ve likely dealt with before—and how a superblend shake like Ka’Chava can help you find your ground.

1.You’re (way) busier and more stressed than usual

You’ve got back-to-back meetings with multiple deadlines looming. Your kid is home sick (and you’re not feeling so hot yourself), and you’re trying to coordinate with the plumber, who needs to get over ASAP to look into a leaky pipe. If you manage to make it to lunch, you’ll have approximately two minutes to throw something together.

Rather than scarf down the rest of last night’s pizza, now’s the time to reach for a nutritional shake. No, it won’t solve all your problems. But knowing that you’ve got a healthy option can give you more mental energy to deal with all the other stuff. “You can’t know when stress will happen, but you can plan for knowing it will happen at some point by having a meal replacement available,” Bazilian says.

Ka’Chava Superblend, in particular, can form the base for a nutrient-dense meal that’ll keep you going for hours, with 25 grams of hunger-busting protein, four to nine grams of fiber (depending on the flavor), and seven grams of healthy fats, including omega-3 fatty acids, Bazilian says. You’ll get your fill of antioxidants, too, thanks to a blend of fruits and veggies like açaí berries, tart cherries, beets, and kale. If you need a little extra oomph (aka calories) to make it through the afternoon, try blending your shake with a plant milk (like unsweetened almond), a banana, and a spoonful of nut butter, she suggests.

And when it comes to taming tension, Ka’Chava has you covered. This superblend serves up adaptogen herbs like mushrooms, ginger, and maca, which research shows may help you better respond to different types of stress—mental and physical. “They’re like balancers that come in to support the body as needed,” Bazilian explains.

2. You’re away from home for work or play

Travel and healthy, balanced meals don’t typically go hand in hand. Sometimes you’re on board with that, like when you’re savoring a nine-course tasting menu from a raved-about restaurant or sipping a poolside piña colada. But other times you’re not, like when you’re late for the airport and your breakfast buffet only has sugary muffins, or it seems like the only available options are burgers or burritos.

It’s those latter instances where having a superblend like Ka’Chava can make a big difference. “We all know when we travel, we don’t necessarily have access to the perfect diet. Having a quick, healthy option that’s easy and convenient can help you stay even-keeled and balanced,” Bazilian says. Seriously, you won’t find a healthy dose of B vitamins, calcium, iron, magnesium, potassium, and other nutrients in a funnel cake or a bucket of fries. But you will get them all in a serving of Ka’Chava.

In addition to balancing out those indulgent meals and treats with some nutrition, Ka’Chava offers a variety of nutrients, vitamins, and minerals that can help you feel your best while you’re away from home. Adaptogens’ role in maintaining stable cortisol levels can make it easier to sleep well when you’re jet-lagged or off your routine, research suggests. Ka’Chava’s blend of digestive enzymes, probiotics, and prebiotics can help support healthy GI function, too, which can be a big plus if traveling tends to upset your stomach, Bazilian points out.

Oh, and remember: Dehydration can be a thing when you’re on the road or on vacation. In addition to giving you some clean, feel-good fuel, a shake also serves up some much-needed liquids. “That's important for satiety, weight management, and overall health,” says Bazilian.

3. You need a quick post-workout snack

You just got back from a long bike ride or run. You’re exhausted, sweaty, and ready to scarf down the first thing you see to get your energy back up. “After 60 or more minutes of physical activity, the golden rule is to have something with protein, healthy fat, and ample carbs within 30 to 90 minutes,” Bazilian says.

A superblend like Ka’Chava serves up all three. “It’s got the balance to support you,” Bazilian says. Pea protein and whole grains like brown rice and quinoa combine to form a complete protein that helps you maintain and build new muscle after exercising, while flax and chia seeds deliver anti-inflammatory omega-3 fats. (If you’re worried that plant-based proteins don’t have enough oomph, think again.) You’ll get fiber-rich carbs from whole grains, fruits, and veggies.

And unlike many packaged protein powders, Ka’Chava is free of artificial additives, flavors, and preservatives. It’s sweetened naturally with monk fruit, not gobs of added sugar. “Sometimes we grab something quick and then check ourselves with questions about whether we could have done better,” Bazilian says.

Note: If you went heavy on the cardio, consider having an apple or a banana on the side for some extra carbs to replenish your blood sugar stores and assist recovery, she recommends.
