There's a lot to love about wavy hair: When you get a blowout or straighten your hair it tends to last for days (although, sure, an especially humid day will bring some frizz). You can also play up your texture with curly hair products to give you more defined waves, volume, and bounciness.

That said, experts suggest you lean into one of these two style options so that you can tailor your haircut to it. "If you want to enhance your waves, you should add more layers to your cut," says celebrity hairstylist Danielle Priano. "The more weight you remove, the more movement your hair will have." Alternatively, a blunt cut weighs the hair down, making waves less apparent.

If you're still deciding which wavy haircut is right for you, check out this list. With the help of pro hairstylists, we have lots of inspiring ideas.

1

Long Layers

If you have long hair and want to preserve your length, ask your stylist for long layers, says Priano. They help to add volume to your hair without going shorter.

2

French Bob

A chin-length French bob is chic and easy to style because the more "lived-in" and textured it gets, the better it looks, says Priano. "Curl the hair with the edge of a straightener to define a few of the waves around the hairline. Make sure to bend it in different directions so the waves look soft and natural, not perfectly curled." Afterward, spritz a texturizing spray throughout strands for more volume. Priano likes SexyHair Surfer Girl Dry Texture Spray.

3

Long Layers on Medium Length

Medium-length hair (anything between your armpits and your shoulders) will showcase your waves. As they grow out, they may lose some definition, so do add long layers to help enhance the texture.

Chin-Length Bob

Uniform waves on a chin-length bob may require a bit of heat styling to manage poofiness, but the end result is so worth it. Take a page from Viola Davis's book and do a deep side part for an Old Hollywood vibe.

5

Long Layers with Fringe

Fringe is in—and it looks great when paired with long, wavy hair. For the most modern take, ask your stylist to taper them on the sides, allowing them to blend into the rest of your hair.

6

Mullet

The edgy style is bound to turn heads everywhere you go. "A shaggy mullet is adventurous, but it looks amazing with a wavy texture," says Priano.

7

Pixie

Wavy textures and short hair go together like peanut butter and jelly. They require little to no styling because waves give it an effortless I-woke-up-like-this look. A texturizing balm can add extra separation.

8

Curtain Bangs

If full fringe makes you nervous, consider curtain bangs, which frame the face and seamlessly cascade into your waves—just like curtains, you can push or clip them to the sides when you want.

9

Short Shag with Fringe

"A curly shag has lots of layers, so it gives hair effortless movement and accentuates your waves," says Alyssia Dotson, Alterna's creative team lead hairstylist. "You can also take it a step further and ask for fringe, which you can leave wavy, to spice it up."

10

Wolf Cut

Even though Keke Palmer's haircut is a wig, the viral wolf cut continues to have its moment in the limelight. It's that good, and the shaggy layers are made for wavy hair.

11

Long Wolf Cut

If you want to preserve your length, rest assured you can still get that cool, shaggy wolf-cut style; it complements wavy hair perfectly.

12

Subtle Layers

Mandy Moore proves that even without layers, wavy hair looks great when your hair is long hair. It's instantly beachy.

Medium Length Cut with Wispy Fringe

It doesn't take much—just a few wispy pieces that stretch past your brows—to make medium-length waves look glam.

14

Shoulder-Length Bob

A shoulder-length bob is the perfect haircut for those with long wavy hair ready to transition into a shorter 'do. It gives a similar vibe as a bob, but it's still long enough to throw into a ponytail.

15

Micro Fringe

The typical rule of thumb for bang length is to aim for the eyebrows. But the latest trend—called micro fringe—draws them up an inch or even two. The look can be surprisingly fresh and youthful.

Butterfly Cut

This on-trend haircut is all about long, feathery layers that nod to the iconic '90s bombshell blowout.

17

Bixie

Meet the bixie, a pixie-meets-bob haircut that's seriously cool. You'll want to make sure to define your curls with a flexible gel, like Alterna My Hair. My Canvas. My Way Curl Defining Gel. "This will help support the layers and add soft hold without being flaky, crunchy, or tacky," says Dotson.

18

Choppy Layers

Choppy layers only at the front of your hair creates a beautiful, romantic cascade effect.

Asymmetrical Lob

Keep your bob longer in the front than the back for a cool, asymmetrical design that's also functional. "A slightly front-dipped bob ensures that the hair at the neck doesn’t look bulky," says Chiran Hayasaka, hairstylist at Fekkai Salon at The Mark Hotel.

20

Pixie with Fringe

If you want to go really short, but still want to keep a bit of your natural wave, add long fringe.
